MTV Video Music Awards: Wildest Red Carpet Styles: Photos
Who doesn’t love seeing all the crazy fashion at the MTV Video Music Awards?!
Since its inception in 1984, the annual awards show has boasted some of the wildest red carpets in Hollywood — and we’re celebrating them all! After all, when the folks who make their living creating fabulous stage shows and over-the-top videos get together, you have to expect some d-r-a-m-a.
Think nearly nude everything, outfits made of plastic, matching couples in denim (not who you think!) and painted-on frocks that make you wonder how many people were involved in the getting-dressed process.
As far back as 1987, Cher attended the event turning heads in a barely-there sheer leotard that she wore under a long black coat. It may not have been an unusual look for the pop icon, but it definitely set the trend for years to come. In 1992, Cindy Crawford wore the infamous S&M-inspired Versace dress that has since been copied by her lookalike daughter Kaia Gerber for her 18th birthday. And who could forget Rose McGowan‘s basically naked mesh dress that showed off her bra-less chest and black thong? In 2014 Amber Rose rocked an updated version of the look that was equally as nude and glitzy.
Though the 2020 VMAs are looking a little different this year due to COVID-19, we’re sure someone will make headlines for wearing something bold and daring during the virtual performance.
So without further ado, let’s take a look back at the boldest styles of all time, including those worn by Lady Gaga, Nicki Minaj, Miley Cyrus, Lil’ Kim — and so, so many more.
